Manchester United & Chelsea Take Combat to Goal Celebrations
By: Bob | December 6th, 2006
Lording atop the English Premier League table, Manchester United has had plenty of reason to celebrate this season. If you’re like me – if you are, I know the name of a great therapist – you might have been wondering why some of the Man U players have taken to waving imaginary rocket launchers following their goals (you can see an example in the video below). No, they aren’t paying tribute to the military. That is so passé. Instead, they have reportedly taken their online video game battles with Chelsea’s players onto the pitch.
According to those in the know, players from the top two teams in England have been doing more than feeding their online porn addictions. They have been fighting it out online, playing one another in a charming game called SOCOM 3: US Navy Seals. Presumably it is one of those games where you kill the commies or the terrorists or Paris Hilton or whomever is the enemy du jour.
A Man United source told The Sun: “They are deadly rivals at everything and computer games are no different. It’s combat on and off the pitch.” John Terry and Frank Lampard first introduced Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney to the game whilst on England duty, and since then players from both squads have been squaring off, so much so that United have incorporated it into their goal celebrations. Well, rather that than the ‘rocking the baby’ one…
And here you thought the gamer you were playing against last week with the ‘Rio4eva’ was a kid from Brazil. I wonder if any of the lads will skip out on their matches this weekend to take place in the FIFA Interactive World Cup.
