Manchester United Pip Robbie Williams for Top Fan Base in Britain
By: Bob | November 6th, 2006
Sometimes you have to wonder about surveys and who is asked to participate in them. The latest one comes from Britain where respondents named the teams, celebrities, etc that they are fans of. The big winners were Manchester United with more than a fifth of the country’s football fans saying that they can’t get enough of Wayne, Rio, Cristiano and the gang. All of this has to make Robbie Williams feel sad. He finished second. Robbie Friggin’ Williams.
Six other Premiership teams made the top twenty with Liverpool third, Arsenal fourth, Tottenham eighth, Aston Villa 12th, Chelsea 16th and Bolton 20th. I would never have guessed that Bolton was that popular, but then again I can’t name one Robbie Williams song so what do I know?
Special merit should be bestowed upon the loyal fans of Guns N’ Roses. The band has the 13th biggest following despite just resurfacing after years of Leeds United-like hardship. It is also worth noting that “0.5% admitted to breaking into a star’s hotel room and the same number said they had rooted through a celebrity’s waste bins.” The other 99.5% of the people are probably lying.
The top 20 fan bases are below.
