Michael Ballack’s $89,000 Handbag

It is a good thing that Michael Ballack signed a huge contract with Chelsea this past summer. The price of handbags is going through the roof these days.
The midfielder has been ordered to pay an $89,000 fine Wednesday for failing to declare to Germans customs a handbag he bought for his wife in Dubai. The original price of the bag was a mere $2,500 and you have to think that right about now Ballack is kicking himself for not checking that little box on the customs form.
While we all make mistakes and might overlook the goods we smuggle from one country to another, whoever is giving Ballack legal advice might want to think about getting a new profession. The footballer could have walked away with a cool $64,000 fine, but instead he chose to appeal the original decision. He then decided that it would be easier to cough up another $25,000 to keep the matter out of the courtroom.
What is another $25k when you make more than four times that a week? Probably the amount his wife was carrying in that handbag.
