Newcastle: Free Contracts For Frenchmen

By: The Offside | January 24th, 2013

french flagFor some reason, Newcastle has decided they love the French way of life, so much so they’ve been pillaging Ligue 1 for a number of transfers recently. With their acquisitions of Massadio Haidara and Moussa Sissoko, that brings the total number of French flags on their Wiki page to a solid ten. And hell, Algerian Mehdi Abeid was born in France and signed from Lens. Suffice it to say, they’ve found their favorite well.

So Jimmy Kebe thought that being French means one automatically wins a contract with Newcastle.

The 29-year-old said on his Twitter account: “On my way to Newcastle, having medical then sign a 4 years contract. Thank you all for your support you’ve been outstanding !!!!”

However, the Magpies denied the claim and, shortly afterwards, Kebe tweeted: “Oups i thought if you’re french and play football u just pop in to Newcastle and sign a contract ???? Not a chance of leaving #LoveReadingFc#”.

That’s kind of awesome. Hopefully this becomes a worldwide trend and everyone with a French passport who’s ever touched a football begins posing with a Newcastle shirt.
