Newcastle United Training Sessions Just Got a Little More Dangerous

By: Daryl | July 1st, 2008

Everyone’s favourite backside-bearing, team-mate punching all-action midfielder got some good news today. Joey Barton has gotten away with a four month suspended sentence for his training ground mangling of Ousmane Dabo’s face. Which basically means he won’t have to do any time.

Or at least he won’t have to do any more time. Barton is currently serving six months at Her Majesty’s Pleasure for an assault in Liverpool in December 2007. But he’s out soon, and could be back in pre-seasn training for Newcastle United before you know it.

“We can’t really say too much until Joey is released, but we will be sitting down and talking about his future,” said [agent Willie] McKay on Tuesday.

“He will be aiming to be back for pre-season training next week. But again, we will see what happens.

“Joey had a great end to the season and has kept himself in great shape.

“In fact, he is in the best shape I have ever seen him in and I think he will be fitter than anybody else.”

Is anyone else picturing Barton doing chin-ups using an upturned bed frame in his cell? Either that or a a poor prison team football manager who suddenly has a huge gap to fill in midfield.

There’s no need for us to get all right wing tabloidy and “ban this thug!” here. I’m sure the Daily Mail will have that angle covered just fine. But this has to be Joey Barton’s final drink in the last chance saloon, doesn’t it?

Assuming Newcastle don’t terminate his contract (and it doesn’t look like they will, they need the players) then the 25 year old will get the chance to show us why he was once known more for his feet than his fists.

Daryl, I don’t think there’s anything “right wingy” about believing he should no longer be allowed to play. Have you seen the video:

The kid is a punk and a disgrace to any team he plays for.

I caught that video on Sky. I have to say, I’m more scared of those girls Barton’s hanging out. Chicks are crazy.
