Nike wants you to believe Wayne Rooney is on Target

By: Bob | July 3rd, 2007

Here’s the latest commercial from the Swoosh. You probably recognize the guy in the video, a fellow named Wayne Rooney, who apparently has accuracy from 50 yards away because he wears shoes with a Swoosh. The camera is an artistic representation of Tim Howard. Is the video real or is the Swoosh up to its old tricks?

It’s real, of course. Not only is he that accurate, he also made the ball rotate just perfectly so that the swoosh on the ball is what actually hits the camera lens.

Next World Cup England needs to make sure that they paint targets on the goal for Roo.

It’s very good digital, but its digital. Cool commercial, though.

The only thing that is fake about this is the target he paints on the lens. Reflections of the sun on the lens reveal that Rooney only had to paint along a path that some well qualified Art Director put there. Or it’s the remnants of Rooney’s own art he painted for previous takes, who knows.

Filmed at the Nike complex in Beaverton, Oregon? Might explain why Rooney was spotted in an Irish pub in Portland a month or so ago…

I dont doubt that he can do it, but on the first try? Maybe.

I’ll go ahead and agree with Marcello here. Probably took at least a few tries. Though that swoosh is quite suspicious.

Can we petition Nike to ban all close ups of Rooney’s face in future commercials? That’d be peaches.

Real or not, Rooney is a beast and could probably do it anyway.
