No one wants God on their side

By: Bob | July 2nd, 2007

robbie-fowler-sniffing.jpgContinuing our theme of unloved footballers, today we learn that those rumors about Robbie Fowler heading to the greener pastures of MLS, Australia and Scotland are little more than just rumors. The fourth-leading scorer in Premiership history continues to sit by the phone waiting for someone, anyone to call.

Says the man they call God:

“I’m between jobs,” Fowler told Sky Sports News. “I actually thought I’d have a few options, but at the minute I’ve not, nothing has happened as yet.

“There should be interest in a few weeks for me, I think. Obviously I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, as in this day and age, lots of players are in my situation and not everyone can get a club.

“I’m in that boat, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

“I’m confident in what I can do. I’m 32 and not past it by any means. I feel as though I’m capable of still doing a job, I’m just waiting for that phone call to get any offers.”

And suddenly I just had flashbacks to the weeks leading up to my senior prom. I swear my parents must have changed our phone number without telling me. How else can you explain the silence? Hang in there, Robbie. Staying home on a Saturday night watching old episodes of the Love Boat is not the worst thing in life.

I doubt he considers the MLS nor Australia as options, since both have inquired about his services. There’s no reason for him to leave the UK or Europe, for that matter. I think he’s hoping for a lesser Premiership side to call, like I’ve said in past posts, I wish he’d go to Wolverhampton. Wrexham or Crewe Alexandra would be sweet too, but I don’t think he wants to drop below the Championship level.

I’ve been secretly hoping he signs for Rangers, just because I’d love to watch him play this fall. But I agree with Brian – I think he’ll stay south of the border. If he dropped below the level of a top Championship side, it would be a waste.

Dude, you HAVE to stop calling Fowler “God.” Please at least say something like “The man the Liverpudlians call God,” cos every time you write about him, I think Paolo Maldini. And it’s really too much of a tease to handle to think about him in MLS.
