Potential Liverpool Owner Might be a Bit Distracted by his Country’s Coup

thaksin-shinawatra.jpgWhile the talk of bungs continues to reverberate throughout England (and make us laugh in a schoolyard way), there is also some big news coming out of Liverpool with rumors of a takeover floating in the air. Local newspaper reports say that the Liverpool board might meet early tomorrow to discuss takeover bids from as many as three different groups.

One person who is unlikely to be involved in any takeover bids these days is Thaksin Shinawatra. Thailand’s Prime Minister has been rumored as a potential investor in Liverpool for a number of years, but at the moment he is dealing with a little problem back home – namely a military coup.

You’d think that would only increase his interest in the gig since he’s likely to need to new job soon, but Liverpool’s board might be a bit worried about him sending Steven Gerrard to go boot the army out of Thailand’s government buildings.

As is usually the case, Anfield Road has a good summary of all that is going on in the Liverpool takeover saga.
