Robinho to Chelsea Within 48 Hours, Kaka Going Nowhere
By: Daryl | August 27th, 2008
Chelsea are expecting to have Real Madrid’s Robinho in a blue shirt within 48 hours, for a fee expected to be around 36 million euros. One man who must be feeling conflicted about this deal is Sir Alex Ferguson.
He’d probably love to see Real Madrid lose Robinho, as a sort of karmic punishment for all that Cristiano Ronaldo business. When Fergie reported Real for “tapping up” Ronaldo, FIFA took pretty much no action. But seems Madrid’s attempts to lure the C-Ron had unintended consequences for them. Robinho was fairly happy at Real until he was offered as a makeweight in a potential C-Ron deal, but not so happy afterwards. Seems like he’s been looking for a move ever since.
So on one hand, Fergie might feel justice has been served should Real lose Robinho. But on the other hand he’d be a lot happier if Robinho was going anywhere but Chelsea.
With all his stepovers and pace, Robinho is basically the Ronaldo type player that Chelsea have been missing ever since Arjen Robben was deemed too injury prone to be worth hanging on to. He’ll give Chelsea an extra extra dimension, which means we could be in for an almighty title battle of Robinho vs Ronaldo.
But even if Chelsea get their man, they shouldn’t be expecting Kaka to join him any time soon. There was speculation that Andriy Shevchenko’s somewhat hush-hush return from Chelsea to AC Milan involved a future agreement regarding Kaka. But if so, then no one has told the player:
“Me going to Chelsea? I’m staying as a Rossoneri player,” Kaka told Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I should help Milan to win the trophies we’re up for this season. The club have made some great signings and Sheva will fit in without any problems.
“I can’t say [if I've been included in the Shevchenko deal], because if someone has promised me to [Chelsea owner Roman] Abramovich, it wasn’t me.”
So either there’s no such deal between Milan and Chelsea, or Kaka is in for quite a surprise next summer.

I like how Kaka says “if someone promised me to Abromovich”, because I’m sure if Roman could, he’d buy the name of the club too.
