Steal this Book

manchester-united-opus.jpgBy now you probably have already shelled out three thousand pounds to purchase the Manchester United Opus. You couldn’t resist the lure of reading the 400,000 words about the club’s history that are printed on over 800 pages made of silk-coated paper. You were eager to view the 2,000 images and to look at the personal signatures of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton. You might have even bought a sturdier coffee table for the 88lb book.

You were not alone in you wanting to get your hands on this book and adding it to your extensive library of massively sized books. Security teams are investigating how six copies of the Opus could have gone missing from a distribution warehouse in London and how two of the volumes ended up in Memphis and China.

The image of a thief stuffing an 88-pound book down his pants and running away is a delightful one. I wonder if we’ll some day see the unsold books at Barnes and Noble with one of those £2000 sale stickers on the cover or offered as a 2-for-1 deal with the Pele book.
