The Community Shield

By: Bob | August 11th, 2006

cshield.jpgWith their paths crossing 10 times over the course of the past two years, it is only fitting that Chelsea and Liverpool meet again Sunday in the Community Shield at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

The two sides have little love for one another, which could make the traditional preseason charity event worth watching. Chelsea won five of those ten meetings but Liverpool walked away with victories in the semifinals of the Champions League and FA Cup.

Both sides are quick to come up with excuses for why they won’t win even before the match is even played. For Chelsea, there haven’t been enough training days. For Liverpool, there haven’t been enough bucks to keep up with Chelsea’s free spending ways.

We’re not fans of either club, but nevertheless we are excited that the Community Shield is here and the Premiership season will soon take over our lives. We’re also excited to see that trophy. It reminds us of the disk we used to use as kids when we went sledding in our neighbor’s backyard.
