The Legend of Moritz Volz Grows with 15,000th Premiership Goal
By: Bob | January 2nd, 2007
If you selected Moritz Volz as the player who would score the 15,000th goal in the English Premier League in your office pool, chances are you aren’t in your office reading this blog today. Do make sure to send us a postcard from the beach in Tahiti or wherever it is you have chosen to spend your newfound fortune on drinks that have tiny umbrellas.
Volz performed the heroics for Fulham in their 2-2 tie against Chelsea and his German compatriot Michael Ballack, prompting the Mirror to write: “The man who travels to home games on a fold-up bicycle utterly outshone his countryman who recently took delivery of a £250,000 Ferrari as a Christmas present to himself.”
Ouch. I only paid £230,000 for my Ferrari. Ballack really isn’t doing well in England after all.
For his efforts, Volz will donate the £15,000 prize that comes with the historic goal to his Web site memorabilia auction fund for The Prince’s Trust and Kick4Life charities, which undoubtedly are doing God’s work by helping The Hoff through yet another round of rehab.
Here is Volz’s unspectacular, yet legendary goal.
