Speaking of which, we’re back in action this week after the FA Cup enforced break in fantasy football point scoring. If you’re looking for ways to get your numbers up then you could do worse than signing a quality keeper. Below is a quick guide to the best performing keepers, some of them expensive some of them more affordable.
Unsurprisingly, the top three highest scoring keepers are Jose Reina, Edwin Van der Saar and Petr Cech. You get these guys between the sticks and you’re more or less guaranteed a bunch of points. But the wily folk at SquadGod knew this, so all three are expensive: £10.5m, £9.5m and £10m respectively.
The fourth highest scoring keeper – in fine form after employing a psychologist – is David James, but even he costs £8m.
But there are bargains out there. When Manuel Almunia is playing for Arsenal instead of hiding from ghosts, he’s great value at £6.4m. Robert Green is a steal too at £5.5m. He’s my keeper right now and I’m very very happy with him.
But the biggest goalkeeper giveaway has to be Joe Hart. The young keeper was way down the Man City pecking order at the start of the season and wasn’t expected to be wearing any first team gloves this season, hence his rock bottom £5m price tag. But all of a sudden the 20 year old is a City regular and heading for an England call-up. And if he’s good enough for Fabio Capello then maybe he’s good enough for your fantasy team.
