The Offside Fantasy League: Walcott’s World?
By: Daryl | February 29th, 2008
Another weekend of Premier League games tomorrow, and another chance to score some points in The Offside Fantasy League. It’s also a big weekend for a certain young striker who (somehow) went to the 2006 World Cup.
Obviously the Eduardo injury was horrific, and all the attention surrounding Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham has quite rightly focused on that incident. But in that same game, almost in the background, young Theo Walcott finally came up with the Premier League goods.
Walcott hadn’t done himself justice since the big money move to Arsenal way back in ought six. His trip the World Cup ended up being nothing more than really good tickets to the games. He’s been in and out of the Arsenal team, and not looking particularly confident when given the occasional chance. Wenger was even considering loaning the lad back to the Championship in January.
But then last weekend Walcott finally bagged his first ever Premier League goal with a tap-in, and them made it two a smooth run and shot. The unavoidable truth of Eduardo’s injury is that it means more playing time for the 18-year-old striker, and possibly a few more goals. For example, he’s likely to be involved when Arsenal host Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon, especially after bagging a brace against Birmingham. So if you’re feeling brave, then why not take a gamble with £9.5m of your fantasy league money and sign up Theo Walcott? Here’s a quick reminder of what the lad can do.
