Those Cristiano Ronaldo Rumours are Back. And It’s Only October.

Aargh! The transfer rumour we thought was buried (at least until next spring) has risen from the dead like some sort of tabloid-tastic zombie. And it wants to eat your brain. Run for the hills kids, it’s, it’s… Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

Real boss Bernd Schuster got the evil bandwagon rolling again when he told the press (and I cross my heart this isn’t another rickroll) that he’s optimistic about snagging him some C-Ron next summer:

“Yes, I think so,” said Schuster, possibly rubbing his hands. “I believe next year it will be a bit more difficult for his club to keep hold of him. There is hope that next year he will be with us.”

It’s worth making clear that this is NOT happening in January. That just wouldn’t make sense for anyone, mostly because CR7 would be cup-tied in the Champions League. Schuster is talking about next summer, which is a long long way away when this season is still so young (for example, if the season finished now then neither 5th placed Real nor 8th placed Man Utd would make the Champions League).

In Schuster’s defence he didn’t just make this claim out of nowhere, he was answering a direct question. Schuster was also asked if the club would be willing to offer €90m again, to which Schuster said yes. As if he has any control over how much Madrid will or won’t bid.

So more pie in the sky, for now. But a timely reminder that even though the C-Ron saga was seemingly solved this summer, it’s never really over until he either actually ups and moves to Madrid or gives a definitive statement that he doesn’t want to go anywhere.

All I know is this: If we see a branch of the CR7 store open in Madrid, then Man Utd will have a vacancy at #7.
