Video of the Stamford Bridge Scuffle

By: Daryl | April 28th, 2008

We’re still not sure of the exact details of the Man Utd players vs Chelsea groundstaff showdown at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. I don’t know who started it or why, and in many many ways I don’t care. It was an entertaining little sideshow where nobody got hurt, and adds an extra layer of intrigue to the already tense title run in.

That said, here’s a bit of video where a Stamford Bridge “jardinier” takes a swing at Patrice Evra. Worth bearing in mind that this comes from French TV, so their main concern is Patrice Evra and his wellbeing (Euro 2008 is coming and all that) so this shouldn’t be taken as evidence that the brawl was started by Chelsea’s groundstaff swinging for Evra. Though it probably didn’t help.

  • I watched the video before reading your commentary and thought exactly the same thing: This is French TV, so it's all about Evra being provoked.

That said, though, I don't generally think of him as a hothead, so something had to happen to set him off.
  • Looks like you found a better quality video than my guerrilla-style offering earlier today -- I'm impressed. Park Ji-Sung = Ricky Steamboat.
