Where next for Jose Mourinho?

By now you have had time to digest the news that Jose Mourinho and Chelsea have parted ways and that Avram Grant/Steve Clarke will take over for Mourinho for the time being. You’ve learned that the Special One may be paid 25 million pounds not to stand on the touchline at Stamford Bridge and undoubtedly you have gone back to look at his contributions to the quotes books over the years. And you probably have even thought about where the man who has been such a figure in the football world the past few years will resurface once the dust settles.

At just the age of 44, Mourinho has a lot of years ahead of him. It is hard to imagine those years not including a high profile coaching gig or three. But where will he land next?

The bookmakers are here to help in this regard. The odds are posted and here is how they see Jose’s future:

Jose, will likely to take a time off. He said in a previous interview "After all, there are some other things in his life other than soccer."

I think Jose will manage in Italy. He says that for SURE that he isn't gonna manage the portuguese team or work in portugal and sort of hinted that he will take Italian or German lessons. Why?? I don't think the bundesliga would be that profile enough for him and that would only make Italy his destination without obviously stating so.

Spain is an outside bet with Valencia, Barca or Real Madrid, but seeing he started his career there, I think he wants to make his mark on another league. Inter Milan would be the team for him as he had stated in the past they have the best squad in europe but seem to underachive and Jose will be the man to make them a powerhouse team in Europe. Milan and Juve don't seem to fit the bill for me. Inter for me if he goes Italy or he will go to Spain and that one I don't know yet ;-)

I don't see Mourinho agreeing to be anyone's stop-gap, so I doubt he'll go to Portugal for anything other than a temporary advisory role till next summer.

He's big on the team bonding that preseason brings, so I doubt he'll be taking a new job until next season when he can have a full preseason with a club, installing his methods and fitness regime.

Yes, much later in his life, but he didn't expect to be out of job this early. Unless a big club makes him an offer he can't refuse, he'll be coaching Portugal sometime soon.

Consider also that Scolari has been handed a match ban for the remaining Euro qualifiers. The Portuguese Federation has scheduled an emergency meeting for Monday and there are rumors that they have already contacted Mourinho about taking a position with the Portuguese FA.

The timing may not be what everyone envisioned, but it just may be the perfect storm.

He has said he wants to coach Portugal much later in his life.

Portugal would be perfect, but I wonder if Jose wants to be a national team manager. The pressures are totally different - instead of constant, every-week pressure, you get the crushing attention concentrated around international weeks. Something tells me he'll go to a club, but it's really hard to say. Who's got the cash? I agree that Spurs is unlikely. Valencia would be a great job for him.

I don't see any big clubs with openings or budgets to suit Mourinho. If he's smart, he'll take a nice long vacation and then take over for Big Phil when he leaves after Euro 2008. Of course, these are the wishes of a Portugal fan.

Come on Jose, there's only one job left for you and you know it. Bring home a Euro and a World Cup!

Reports in England have Mourinho family members in Portugal saying he'll be taking over from Big Phil very shortly.
How about Valencia, solid squad, in Chelsea's Champions League group. Sorry Spurs but I can't see him taking another English team right now.
