Who Can Man City Realistically Sign in January?

By: Daryl | October 3rd, 2008

Looking for suggestions here. Realistic suggestions.

Imagine you’re Mark Hughes. You’ve got silly money to spend in January, but your team is not in the Champions League.

Despite all the early crazy talk, you’re not going to be signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres or Cesc Fabregas. You’re just not.

Best bet is probably to look for big name players who are unhappy and looking for a move (like Robinho was). Or maybe players looking for their first big move but willing to wait a couple of years on Champions League football.

So, open floor. Who can Hughes realistically sign in January?

Money talks so there is no reason we should not be looking at the likes of KaKa, benzima and messi. we dont want “has beens” like henry, anelka or ronaldinho. It will take a few years but we need to be patient and im sure we will be celebrating some silverware soon, hopefully this years eufa cup.

City can pay the money, up front, in a single payment, as they did with Robinho. No one deals like this these days, where most transfers are done in installments. Owners of big clubs will find it hard to resist that kind of money, in today’s uncertain financial climate. So City name the player, and the clubs name the price – easy.

Diego, Taiwo (WE NEED A LEFT BACK!), Cambiasso, cheeky bid for Torres (Hicks & co HAVE to refinance in January, not easy in this economic climate – cold hard cash might be too hard to resist), Possibly Aguero & Benzema if we are prepared to offer enough. Would suggest though that most of Hughes’ signings won’t appear on the radar until they’re actually signed!

They need defensive options more than attacking options.

gabriel bilito or andrea barzagli would upgrade over dunne and ben haim.

Man City need to look at players they NEED more so than players they want. They could sign some of the best players in the world but they need to build a team, not just a collection of expensive big names.

Even with their wonga, I find it hard to see them getting top four anytime soon.

Hopefully they’ll just buy ten strikers and no defenders and Villa will remain the most likely fifth placers.

Listen to the City fans: “KaKa, Benzema and Messi”, “we dont want “has beens” like henry, anelka or ronaldinho”, “oh and maybe tevez as the rags have only got him on loan”, “So City name the player, and the clubs name the price – easy.”, “cheeky bid for Torres”.

What a load of old tosh !! There is one little, tiny, eency weency thing you overlooked here, you need the player TO WANT TO GO TO CITY before anything else is even thought about. Kaka, Benzema, Torres and Messi wouldn’t even entertain it until City are top 3 at least ! To call the likes of Henry, Anelka and Ronaldhino is arrogant beyond belief. 12 months ago you would have got on your hands and knees and begged them to play for you, now you put them down like they are garbage. “City name the player and the club name the price…..easy”. Fucking hell, I laughed my ass off when I read that. You sound like those Spanish pricks Real Madrid. They got told where to go by Fergie. Then there was the smart arse Bindippers trying to buy Heinze off us. They would take Fergie to court and blah blah blah….they got told to piss off too, lol.

Money wont make you instant winners. Abramobitch could buy United 10 times over and he can outbid us on EVERY player, but who won the title the last 2 years and then beat him in Moscow too for good luck ?

Maybe you all think the money guarantees success, well good luck then because it needs a hell of a lot more than that. Brian Clough took a team of young kids and washed up has-beens, moulded them together, nurtured them to get the best out of them and made them champions of Europe TWICE !! The team must have cost 50 quid and 60 Lamberts and half a dozen packs of king size Rizla, and look what he did !!

Klaas Van Huntelaar would be a good signing too.

Having said all this, I could be wrong, I’m just a girl after all Muah xx

PS…..the cash is ready for Tevez by the way, £30m and he wont leave anyway.

Overall we have to build a strong team. That can make sure that we bet the rags twice in a season. O’ didn’t we do that last year!! However lets be realistic ‘yes’ a number of teams have history etc etc but at the end of the day Money does make people move on. And ‘Yes’ we might not get the big names which are in the fray at the moment. But why have these sort people? Maybe it’s a far better idea to look around the world and get hold of new up and coming stars. This is the way forward really. One last thing what will happen after Darf Vada (Fergie) moves up stairs and ‘NO’ i can’t see Hughes going across town. Now he can start to create his own legacy..

David Villa and David Sivla expressed a desire to leave the club, definitely great signings, Yaya Toure from Barca isn’t playing a lot, Saviola from Real isn’t on the team a lot in Madrid

All above about is true about players not wanting to leave despite city offering record wages and huge pile of cash, but some players may want to leave to a new challange saying they want to make it in PL and help City become nr !, even thought they only leave because of the money, aka Ballack and Sheva, those players and the players who want to leave are possible targets. Those might be Podolski, Yaya Toure, Saviola, Arshavin, Silva and Villa could be sold for about £30M each, Diego could leave. Generally look for good players who don’t get to play all that much at top clubs like Real and Barca. Forget well established players like Messi and Sergio Ramos. NOt only will they never be sold by the club for any amount of money, they will not leave as long as they are an importan part of the first team and doing well. But big players at big clubs that are on the verge of going a division down, like Spurs, lots of wuality to get there as players don’t want to play in the championchip. Mostly look for want-away players like Robinho

Yeah right, I’m sure the arabs have to borrow money like Leeds did.. How stupid can you get? You must be a brainless rag scum. We can buy who we want, and players’ greed will see them all flock to City. What do you expect them to say while still on big contracts at big clubs? “I don’t want to stay here, I want to go to city where I get more money”? Of course not. They leave the agents do the talking for them and pay lip service to the media. You will all be very suprised when we start to sign players in January.

January will be difficult, but if City can unlock Aguero with the 60M Euro release clause and then tempt him to join what undoubtedly will big the biggest club in the world within the next 2 or 3 years then this would be a massive coup. Next summer I can see Torres wanting to join his old striking partner and the rest will flood in from there. I’d rather sign Messi than C. Ronaldo I’d also prefer Lampard over Gerrard because I don’t believe Gerrard would play with the same passion for anyone except Liverpool. So my main targets for January would be Aguero & Benzema. A lot of fans think we are dreaming, but the cold truth is… we are the richest club in the world – probably got more money behind us the all the other top flight clubs in England, France, Spain & Italy put together.

As a Lyon fan, i have to say it’s kinda exciting with a new rich team that has more money than all the teams in the world together..It’ll be exciting to see if man city can sign all those great names, and get to be best in europe..I think Robinho may have opnened the transfer market for city, with him in, maybe other great players want to come too..One thing is for sure..Benzema won’t come ;P I think Ben Arfa will either go to arsenal or city next year..
