How to Ruin Your Reputation, by Bryan Robson
By: Daryl | February 14th, 2008
Bryan Robson’s managerial reputation received another nail in an already pretty nail-filled coffin when was fired by fired by Sheffield United today. He’s now been fired by (or “left by mutual consent” if you prefer) Middlesbrough, Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United and the man once touted as a future England boss would now be lucky to get another job in the Championship.
Younger readers might find this hard to believe, but Bryan Robson wasn’t always a dour manager who consistently failed at so-so English football clubs. As Manchester United and England captain, he was an absolute legend. He was Captain Marvel. He used to do things like this:
The man was a hero. But this is what Sheffield United fans thought of him after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe left the down in 16th place in the Championship. WARNING: Lots of swearing by some very drunk, very angry, very Northern Sheffield United fans as they protested against Robson outside Bramall Lane.
Bryan Robson’s experience should serve as a warning to all high profile players who want to move into football management (this means you Alan Shearer.) It doesn’t matter how good you were or how many goals you scored for England. If your team draws 0-0 at home to Scunthorpe they’ll still want you gone.

I like the way the Blades logo gives a nice red halo in the picture above. Rather ironic, but still, very nicely framed.

I feel for Robson but I think the Blades job was his chance to prove his creditintials in the management arena. Now thats its gone he may now have to go League 1 or 2 and bring a team up for him to get a job at the top level.
