Key To Spurs Turnaround? Cuisine

ctmpphpu9ypr9.jpgWhen one looks at the physical appearance of both Marty Jol and Juande Ramos, there appears to be a slight difference. Jol is a bit, shall we say, jolly in the midsection, while Ramos is fairly svelte, and appears to be in good shape for his age. Now it’s being said this difference was evident with the players, as well.

Since Juande took over in North London, the Spurs have gone from relegation fodder to 12th in the table, and advancing in the UEFA Cup, with a record of 9-4-3 in all competitions. And if you’re to ask those in the know, much of this is do to what was going on off the pitch, at the dinner table.

“We saw in the first week that the meals were not right,” said fitness coach Marcos Alvarez in the London Evening Standard.

“It was mostly English food and it wasn’t healthy. We needed to change the diet because food is very important, it is the fuel for the players.

“To eat healthy means there is no fried food, fatty food, no sauce on the dishes. Spanish people can eat the same kind of food, too, but if you a sportsman you have to take care of yourself better.

“Now there are salads and fruit, while fish and meat is grilled rather than fried.”

Seems like this is a recurring theme in England. Some foreigners coming into the league have mentioned how poor the English dietary habits are, and one has to wonder when somebody might get a clue and start making their professional athletes eat like, gasp, professional athletes.

Ramos works with a professor from Spain named Antonio Escribano as the nutritionist, if I am not mistaken. Between him and Alvarez, we are already seeing significant changes in the players.

It might take a year to fully implement, but by next year, we will outrun every team on the pitch.
