Pablo Couñago Scores a Sweet Backheel in the Championship

By: Daryl | December 11th, 2007

With so much focus on the English Premier League, the Championship gets too easily dismissed as a place of kick and rush and long balls to big strikers. But (with the exception of Watford) that’s not necessarily a fair representation of what goes on down there. Consider Exhibit A above, a sublime backheel from Ipswich Town’s Spanish striker Pablo Couñago (now in his second spell with the Tractor Boys.) OK, so it was just the consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat to Charlton, but it’s still a bit of class.

Indeed it is. I would even add a letter and go so far as to say it was f**king gorgeous. The back heel has got to be one of the ballsiest shots to take - back to the goal, maybe even more unexpected than the bicycle kick.
  • Are we allowed to use profanity in these comments? Because that is f***ing gorgeous.
