FC United of Manchester will have over 2,000 Eric Cantonas on their side as they seek a place in the Unibond premier play-offs. Fans attending Saturday’s crunch match against fellow promotion chasers Bradford Park Avenue will be handed rubber masks for a publicity stunt organised by the company behind the new Ken Loach film “Looking for Eric”.

Is that not the slightest bit creepy? 2,000 of those things floating around a football park on a Saturday afternoon? Though at least the head, figuratively speaking, is appropriately sized. And there’s an unconfirmed rumor that Matthew Simmons will be extended an extra special invitation….but mum’s the word.

(And who wants to wager on the number of holdups in the Greater Manchester Area next week featuring one of those masks?)
