The other Rooney Brother gets his game on
By: Bob | August 22nd, 2007
With Wayne Rooney out with yet another foot injury and Graham Rooney getting paid to be his older brother, the footballing fortunes of the Rooney clan currently rest on the shoulders of John Rooney. The 16-year-old was part of the Everton youth system for five years before being released last year and now he has resurfaced on Macclesfield Town’s youth team.
According to the Daily Express (damn them and their lack of links), John Rooney is starting to attract the attention of some of the big clubs in England. He apparently is an attacking midfielder with the same rugged build as his older bro. By rugged, I mean he has a bit of a paunch.
His manager Mick Holgate says:
Ability-wise, there’s no question that he’s good enough. The only problem is his body shape.
“He has been playing up front because, although he prefers to be in midfield, he needs to get fitter to do that.”
Who knows if the latest Rooney will ever amount to anything – a Rooney cousin played for Macclesfield Town too before disappearing from the scene. Lord knows he’ll have the pressure on him every step of the way. But I still find it fun to follow the fortunes of famous siblings. My sister is a master gardener. I can’t keep a houseplant alive. Genes are unpredictable.

If he just bides his time until that two-players-over-20-percent-body-fat rule is instituted, he’s golden. Link.

Hopefully he is a smart lad and he won’t wear NIKE.
