Your Alan Shearer £20 notes are no good here

By: Bob | August 9th, 2007

alan-shearer-currency.jpgAfter watching him score 148 goals in 303 games for their club, you can hardly blame Newcastle United fans for equating Alan Shearer with royalty. He was the king and as such it doesn’t stretch the imagination that his likeness would appear on currency.

Officials in Gateshead would like you to know, however, that the Queen’s image on the pound has not been replaced by one featuring Alan Shearer. They have stepped in and confiscated £20 notes featuring Shearer, Michael Owen, Johnny Depp and Snow White.

Gateshead Council officers were concerned unscrupulous drinkers would fold them in half and use them in busy pubs.

“These notes look just like real bank notes when they are folded in two and we are very concerned that some people may be conned into accepting them as legal tender.”

I certainly wouldn’t want anyone out there to be conned into accepting counterfeit money so if you come across any bills that look like this, please send them to Bob c/o The Offside and they will be properly disposed of.
