Christiano Ronaldo Plays and Lives to Tell About It

By: Bob | August 9th, 2006

cronaldojump.jpgA few pieces of gum thrown his way, some boos and a pair goals. All in a day’s work for Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo in his first game back after becoming public enemy number one during the World Cup.

Playing in front of a vocal crowd at Kassam Stadium, Ronaldo scored a brace to help lead Man U to a 4-1 in an exhibition match against Oxford United. Although there was some additional security for the match it wasn’t needed.

Said manager Sir Alex Ferguson: “It was Cristiano’s first game back and I thought he handled it very well. He took his goals very well. They were both great strikes and he got a terrific reception from the United supporters as well and all in all, he did very well.”

Of course a non-league exhibition match against a small club does not compare to playing away at some Premiership venues, but hopefully the lack of drama surrounding Ronaldo is able to carry forth this season. The guy is a twit and annoying as hell to watch, but he should be allowed to carry on with his career without further talk of added security and threats to his family.

Here is his first goal, which was a strike that would silence most crowds.
