David James Goes Bold and Beautiful
By: Bob | November 28th, 2006
I suppose we could use this space to discuss Portsmouth’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle on Sunday. We could even talk a bit about whether or not Portsmouth will remain near the top of the English Premier League table the rest of this season. But instead, we’ll take a moment to talk about the real news coming out of the Portsmouth camp this week: David James’ hair.
The England keeper is known for his frequent hair changes. Blonde afro one day, bald the next, he keeps the hairstylists off the unemployment line. His look on Sunday was really a first. He explains the combover ‘do that looks like his mom spit on her hand and slicked down his hair and then made him stand at the bus stop while his hair froze in the following fashion:
I did not use hair straighteners, I do not know what they are. It is some black chemical called Bold and Beautiful. It is a bit different, the comb-over.
“I went to a lady in Exeter who did a great job but after seeing it over the weekend I might shave it off.”
Will he shave it off or will it remain in place to haunt us all? Now we have even more reason to tune into Portsmouth’s match against Liverpool on Wednesday.
For a photographic journey that takes you along the historic path this is David James’ hair, head over to the Beeb.

I went to an Arsenal v Liverpool game at Highbury in the mid-90s when David James was in goal for Liverpool.
I was sitting behind the goal in the Clock End and play was down the other end.James had his hair pushed up over the top of his head making it look like a giant pineapple and some guy shouts out ‘DAVID, WHERE’D YA GET THAT BASTARD HAIRCUT’.
He looked around and the crowd pissed themselves.Posted from

I can’t tell you how much that hair scares me — he looks like he’s channeling, like, Rudolph Valentino, or something. Who, if memory serves, was not a good keeper.

He looks like a fifties frat boy. Like he should be bent over and saying, “Thank you, Sir, may I have another” in Animal House.

Kind of looks like the Superman/Clark Kent ‘do. But he’s far from a superman in goal.
