Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid
By: Bob | August 7th, 2006
We hit the pub hard on Saturday but even though we were catatonic for most of Sunday we can’t really relate to what Everton forward Andy van der Meyde went through this weekend.
The Dutch international was hospitalized after becoming ill during a night out on the town in Liverpool. He is believed to be just fine after spending a night in the local hospital.
Van der Meyde’s significant other called police to report that the forward’s drink had been spiked with drugs. Police are investigating the matter and reviewing closed circuit television monitors from the drinking establishment.
Who knew you were being watched by cameras while you were throwing back 7 beers and 5 shots of Jagermeister? I plan on going back to my local pub and demanding the tape from this weekend. My political career will be ruined if the public sees me singing on top of the bar in my skivvies at 4am, but I digress…
While the possibility that van der Meyde’s drink might have been spiked is no laughing matter, it is worth noting that he does have a reputation for being a bit of a barfly. This is a claim he refuted (kind of) back in 2005.
He told the Everton website: “I’ve heard people say that I drink a lot and that I have been going out all the time. But we are all human and we all have problems. When I was out injured things were just so difficult. I was frustrated with everything and I wanted to forget things. But I am not an alcoholic.”
