Morten Gamst Pedersen’s Boy Band Keeps it Real
By: Bob | September 20th, 2006
Bill Clinton hooking up with an intern in the oval office, genocide in Rwanda, the advent of the expression “24/7″…the 90s will be remembered for many things with the introduction of the scourge known as boy bands among the decade’s lasting and horrific legacies.
Just because the 90s are deader than Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premiership doesn’t mean that the beat doesn’t go on in some parts of the world. The boy band craze is apparently still big in Norway where a band known as The Players had a number one hit video this summer. The Players is made up of five football players, chief among them is Blackburn Rovers midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen.
The group released the record, “This is for Real”, this summer and we can tell you from watching the video that it is indeed real in the sense that it is really, really bad to watch. The one redeeming thing we take away from registering on a Norwegian Web site to watch a collection of football players pretend to be a boy band is that proceeds from the song are going to a charity called Soccer Against Crime.
