Smile, you’re on the Internet

What did we used to do before the age of digital cameras and the Internet? How else could you get back at a jilted lover, especially one who plays professional football?

That is allegedly the story behind the pictures of Middlesbrough defender Matthew Bates that are floating around cyberspace. The pictures show Bates snapping photos of himself in the buff and possibly were released to the hounds by his former girlfriend.

Bates, who is straight, has gone from being a relatively unknown player to a gay icon in less than a week. He can thank Al Gore for that.
