Stuart Pearce Comes up with a Creative Way to Save his Job

By: Bob | October 27th, 2006

stuartpearceshuffleitv.jpgWhen your team has won only three of its past twenty games and the seat you sit on is hotter than a Paris Hilton video, it makes sense to plot ways to save your job. Instead of baking his boss a cake or actually winning some games, Manchester City Stuart Pearce has proposed that there be a transfer window for managers so that managers that suck are given more time to suck.

“It is a ridiculous trend. Maybe somewhere in the future, if you are going to move managers on, you will have to do it during the transfer window. Then at least people would have the chance to get on with their job a little bit.

“At the moment, we have a situation where one result can dictate whether you are doing well, average or badly. That is not healthy for the game or any individual club.”

What also isn’t good for any individual club is losing. Forcing a team to stick with a losing coach until a managerial transfer window opens up won’t help clubs at all. Managers will still be under pressure and a group of players that abandon their coach early in the season is unlikely to get any better with additional time.

Pearce should know by now that the best way to maintain job security and avoid the sacking speculation is to simply win.
