Wayne Rooney Needs to Find a New Hobby

When I read the headlines today about Wayne Rooney being questioned about his role in a nightclub brawl, I had a hard time telling whether this was old news or new news. It is difficult to keep track of Rooney’s pugilistic ways. When he isn’t beating up opposing players while sitting down and he isn’t getting into scraps with fans and he isn’t training in tights, Rooney apparently is getting into tussles with photographers at 5am outside a nightclub.
As has been the case in the past, Rooney has not been charged with anything yet and the person on the losing end of the alleged arse whipping did not require medical treatment. Even if this was a minor incident it is still an incident and it still involves Rooney. He might be young and as a celebrity he will always attract unwanted attention, but methinks it is time for Rooney to grow up.
He has a world of talent on the pitch and thus far his off the field actions have not hurt his play, but you have to wonder how long that will continue to be the case. Rooney might attract trouble, but he also has consistently put himself in a position to attract trouble. Perhaps he could learn a lesson or two if he had a sit down with a former superstar who knows a thing or two about how off the field actions can bring a player down.
