Wenger and Pardew do the Two-Step

Normally the fourth official has a pretty cushy job. He stands on the sidelines with a great view of the action, practices his counting as Graham Poll hands out one card after another and learns creative language from players and coaches upset with the officiating.
On Sunday the fourth official of the West Ham and Arsenal match was busier than usual as he had to jump in to keep Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger from walloping West Ham boss Alan Pardew. Wenger apparently took objection at Pardew’s celebratory histrionics following a late goal by the Hammers that won the game. Pardew has apologized for his role in the fun, Wenger has been quiet about the matter.
As far as celebrations go, I’ve seen worse from some coaches in the Premiership and elsewhere. As far as fights go, this one was not nearly as good as it could have been. Yet, there is something about this confrontation that is highly entertaining, especially Wenger’s petulant refusual to shake Pardew’s hand at the end of the match.
