Xabi Alonso is Getting Pretty Good at Long-Range Goals

By: Bob | September 21st, 2006

xabi-alonso.jpgBy now, you’ve hopefully had a chance to see Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso score what some are calling a wonder goal in his team’s 2-0 defeat of Newcastle on Wednesday. If you haven’t or if you can’t get enough of watching the Magpies keeper fumbling all over himself, the video is below.

Alonso is no stranger to long-range goals. He scored from his own half last January against Luton in the FA Cup and his success might just have created a monster.

“I practice all the time in training and sometimes the coaches shout at me for losing a lot of balls but it’s something I like doing and I’ll always try to keep on doing it,” he said after yesterday’s game.

Not sure if that is the sentiment we’d want to hear if we were Liverpool fans or if we were his manager, but if it leads to more amazing goals than we hope that Alonso continues to fire away in practice and games.
