Fan for a Match: Dallas Roma FC
By: Bob | August 1st, 2006
Here at The Offside we don’t play favorites. We love every team. Except for the ones we hate.
But in the interest of neutrality we will present stories from leagues around the world in a fair and balanced manner. We won’t cheerlead for any teams. We won’t try to convert you to our side.
Once a week we will break this rule to offer up a team that we think you should back for at least one match. Perhaps it is an underdog that needs global support. Maybe it is a team with an outspoken, yet loveable manager or player. Or maybe we just like the team’s kits.
This week’s team to support comes from that exotic land known as the United States of America. Little did you probably know, but the Yanks do have a domestic tournament called the US Open Cup. Like the FA Cup in England, the US Open Cup pits teams from all levels of play.
This, of course, leads to great stories such as Dallas Roma FC. An amateur team based in Texas, Dallas Roma FC has advanced to play Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy tonight in the Fourth Round of the US Open Cup.
Not only have a bunch of weekend warriors made it this far, but along the way they knocked off Miami FC – a team that features Brazilian legend Romario – as well as Chivas USA, which plays in the country’s top league.
Truly a great story.
