Bordeaux Ain’t No Sherry Sippers

Don’t accuse Bordeaux of being a pretender in the race for silverware in France. They’re every bit the real deal. Despite being behind annual title holders Lyon, they went into Sunday’s game against Monaco looking to make a statement. Mission accomplished. The first half was pedestrian (by scoresheet standards), but somebody needs to get a copy of Laurent Blanc’s halftime speech – those words must have been magical. Because Bordeaux scored 6 goals in the second half. Add in Lyon’s 1-0 loss to Le Mans and look what we have here: A race in Ligue 1. Who knew?
