Lyon’s Kim Källström is the Victim of a Triple Nutmeg
By: Daryl | December 15th, 2009Bordeaux bagged a 1-0 win away to Lyon this weekend, a 1-0 win that puts the current champions four points clear at the top of Ligue 1, and leaves Lyon languishing all the way down in 9th.
But apparently Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh and Matthieu Chalmé didn’t feel the away win and league positions underlined Bordeaux’s superioty quite enough. So during the game they combined to nutmeg Lyon’s Swedish midfielder Kim Källström not once, not even twice, but three times in a row.
For the record, that’s more nutmegs than there are umlauts in Källström’s name. Though it’s one less than the number of dots.
Watching the video again, it almost seems like Chamakh and Chalmé are the mean older boys at school bullying poor Källström. I half expect a teacher to come over and ask them “what’s going on here?”
Don’t know if you’ve ever been nutmegged. I have, and it makes you wish the pitch would open up and swallow you. But I’ve never been nutmegged twice in a row, and certainly not three times. Although that’s probably because the attacker is long gone after the first nutmeg, so at least we can say well done to Källström for his persistence.
The video was spotted on the ever-observant 101 Great Goals, who are in a good mood today after being name-dropped on The Guardian Football Weekly podcast.
