It has often been suggested that it's because the difference between the divisions is not as great as it is in England where it would be impossible to imagine the same. Before Marseille, Carquefou had knocked Nancy out (3rd in the League) and Geugnon. They will play PSG next round. They were expecting to be humiliated, not the other way around. It's nice though that the charm of the French Cup once again prevails. It's why people like it so much more than the League Cup (just for L1 and L2 - professional - clubs).
