Ribery Might Want to Stay at Marseille if He Doesn’t Want to Leave
By: Bob | August 11th, 2006
We can’t remember. Are Fridays the day when Franck Ribery proclaims his love for playing at Olympique Marseille or are they the day when he says he’d rather visit Paris Disneyland with Marco Materazzi than stay with his current team?
It seems that the schizophrenic Ribery just can’t make up his mind about getting paid to play in Marseille. After initially pledging his allegiance to the team, only to miss their opening match while holding out hope for a transfer, he is back on the OM bandwagon again.
“It’s true that I said I wanted to leave,” Ribery said. “But I have not forgotten that Marseille is my club, and I love this jersey.”
It is true that Olympique Marseille do have nice jerseys, albeit not as nice as those worn by Club America, but we have to think that there is more to Ribery’s decision than the shirt he wears on his back for 90 minutes.
Ribery, who was one of the few young players that stood out during the World Cup, appears to have a bit of wanderlust in him. Since making his Boulogne debut in 2001, he has played for a different club every season – Ales, Brest, Metz, Galatasaray and Olympique Marseille.
For now it appears that he will put down roots in Marseille for another year or until he changes his mind again next week.
