Goalkeeper Blunder: Aalborg’s Karim Zaza Escorts Ball Into His Own Net

By: Jan | April 3rd, 2010

Danish club Aalborg currently sit fifth in the Danish Superiga with an Europa League spot within reach. A victory on Friday against bottom dwellers SønderjyskE could have given those ambitions a major boost. And momentum was certainly on their side, when SønderjyskE’s Andrei Sidorenkov was sent off early in the 33rd minute, for a second bookable offense. But Aalborg keeper Karim Zaza had other plans. Undecided over how to deal with an innocuous back pass by his defender, he chose to escort the ball for while until he could make his mind up – or finally realize it was heading straight into his goal. SønderjyskE striker Henrik Bødker was quick tø intervene før an unlikely lead in the 75th minute. Aalborg eventually rescued a point with a last minute equalizer though.

Aalborg remain three points behind third placed Silkeborg (Europa League), who only managed a draw against Brøndby as well.

if it happends to the pros then i shouldnt be too embarrassed when it happens to me in my sunday league
  • As an FC Midtjylland fan, whose team is now only 5 points off same said last Europa League slot, I admit I loved it.

Though thanks to an incomprehensible transfer decision, we had the worst goalie story in the league this season. We hired a disgraced goalie from Odense Boldklub who had been sent to prison for a pathetic length of time for beating his wife. Oddly enough, our defense turned to shit because they couldn't believe they had to work with that piece of work. He was finally fired when he wrote an autobiography bashing women and gays (we have a lot of gay fans and female fans and gay female fans) and the club decided enough was enough.

Amazingly our defense suddenly improved without even adding anyone new and we went from fighting relegation to being back in the race for third.

So there's worse fates than having a goalie suddenly think he's the opposing team's striker.
