A Song for Marcelo Saragosa
By: Ian Rose | June 28th, 2008For those of you that are either not MLS fans, or were too distracted by the Euros to notice, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo played on Thursday night to a 1-1 draw. What won’t show up on most highlight reels is the absolutely shameful dive by Marcelo Saragosa of FC Dallas in the second half. After being called for a foul on Dwayne De Rosario, Saragosa gets hit by a bad case of the invisible sniper, falling to the ground before players from both teams guilt him into getting up.
The song above is for you, Marcelo. Keep on believing, because no one else that saw that play believed you. No one.
If you want to see the dive for yourself, the only video I can find is at Bill Archer’s Blog at BigSoccer. You might have to play it a few times, since MLS wisely edited out the most incriminating replay. But if you watch close, you can see Saragosa doing his best Greg Louganis impression. Note to self: need to update my diving reference for the younger generation.

Thus proving once and for all diving is not restricted to one culture.

Anyone have a video clip Saragosa’s dive? ESPN nor MLS showed it in their high light reels of the game.
I was at the game. The best part was Dwayne De Rosario picking up Saragosa off the ground by his shirt and chewing him out for taking a dive! That’s CLASSIC! Anyone have the video?

Art, for some reason the embed code for the video won’t work on our site. Click on the above link, where it says “Bill Archer’s blog.” Although it apparently doesn’t show the most incriminating slo-mo angle that was shown during the game.
