David Beckham to Use Left Foot Instead
By: Daryl | April 1st, 2008
After LA Galaxy’s horrible start to the season, the Galaxy management team are taking drastic action to set things right. Or rather, set things left. When Galaxy welcome San Jose to the Home Depot Center on Thursday, David Beckham will be playing left midfield and using his left foot exclusively.
After a career built on his celebrated right foot, the feeling in the Galaxy camp is that it’s too predictable. “When Beckham crosses a ball or makes a pass or takes a set piece, defenders know which foot he’s going to use,” said a senior member of Galaxy management who used to play guitar. “Clearly it’s not working. So this move will help us regain the element of surprise.”
Rumour also has it that should the left footed Beckham experiment prove successful, Galaxy will cash in by trading Beckham’s right foot to FC Dallas in exchange for an extra DP slot. Dallas would probably prefer a whole player as their DP, but the feeling is that having one of Beckham’s feet is better than having an entire Denilson.
Ever the loyal servant, Beckham seems to have no problem with the new arrangement. The Beckham camp believe that after winning 100 England caps his right foot might be worn out, so maybe he can win another 100 with his left foot. They’re also optimistic that this will open up the lucrative left footed commercial sector, which Brand Beckham has so far been unable to penetrate.
