Freddy Adu Headed to Real Madrid Salt Lake

By: Bob | December 11th, 2006

040715_shaq_adu-1.jpgFollowing his recent trial with Manchester United, American wunderkind Freddy Adu reportedly said he is keen on playing for Real Madrid instead of in the English Premiership. Perhaps a simple case of mistaken club name can help to explain why Adu was traded from DC United to Real Salt Lake Monday. Real Madrid, Real Salt Lake, same thing, right?

I have no insight into why this trade went down. Given the Byzantine nature of Major League Soccer’s salary cap and its player allocation system, DC United could have unloaded its biggest asset for any number of reasons that might actually make sense if you can remotely understand them. Knowing that he is likely to flee to Europe after he turns 18 in June, there probably is a reason why Real Salt Lake gave up so much to acquire him, but again I can’t figure it all out.

Perhaps the most logical conclusion is that Adu converted to Mormonism and is interested in pursuing a bigamous lifestyle. You heard it here first.

  • Does anybody remember when little Freddy Adu was in the Chelsea oligarch box two years ago?

I bet Jose is really kicking himself now. Losing Adu to Real Salt Lake.

At least he didn't lose Adu to Fergie. Not like he's losing to him now (folks!).

Sounds like his "trial" with Man U didn't go down too well in DC. Ouch.
