It’s MLS Cup Time! Columbus Crew vs. New York Red Bulls!
By: Laurie | November 23rd, 2008
First and most important thing. If you’re watching the MLS Cup in the vicinity of your computer, or if you’re somewhere you can’t watch at all, be sure to stop by Travis’s liveblog over on MLS Offside and leave lots of comments on the action. And while you’re over there, be sure to check out his MLS Cup preview. The action starts at 12:00 local (West Coast) time in LA’s Home Depot Center.
In a nutshell, we have:
– The best team in the playoffs, the Columbus Crew (the Supporters Shield winners) vs. the worst team (or at least the team with the worst record), the New York Red Bulls. -OR-
– The Giants (not to be confused with some NY team in some other sport) vs. the Cinderella story. -OR-
– Juan Pablo Angel (who swears he’s playing today, injury or no) vs. Guillermo Barros Schelotto -OR-
– Sigi Schmid (triumphantly returning to LA after being unceremoniously dumped a couple of years back) vs. Juan Carlos Osorio, most recent entrant into the RBNY coaches’ revolving door.
And not only that, US fans, it’s on NETWORK television! (One of only two network games this year, the other being the DC United-LA Galaxy game before the Euro finals.)
Yea, ABC! (For once!!)

Actually Laurie, the Red Bulls story isn’t that different from the Giants of last year.
A mediocre team all season, that makes an incredible post-season playoff run winning their games away from home in an incredible fashion, and now must face the #1 team in the league.
The parallells are endless
