Journey With Me Back to 2005

How amazingly awesome is this video of the MLS 2005 Eastern Conference Final, narrated by Edward James Olmos? (And by “amazingly awesome” I of course mean, “melodramatic, camp, and yes, amazingly awesome.”)

The slo-mo. The mellifluous voiceovers. The tragic music as an offside goal is called back! And the drama! Oh! The drama!

“So begins the battle of a one-nil soccer game.” And “The three of them operate like a six-legged monster, eating up anything that comes near.” No tongue in cheek here, folks. This. Is. Serious. How the heck to they make commentary like this actually work? And yet they do.

I think I’m in love with the writer. Or the producer. Or somebody.
