Note to Eddie Robinson: You Can’t Do This in the YouTube Age
By: Laurie | April 16th, 2008Eddie Robinson may have thought he’d gotten away with it.
As reported by Travis on our KC Wizards Offside blog, Eddie delivered a nasty elbow to the face of Kansas City player Tyson Wahl, hard enough to draw blood. But the ref didn’t see it, so there was no call.
Bet you felt pretty smug there, eh, Eddie?
But technology has the last laugh. The ref may not have seen it, but thanks to the miracle of replays and YouTube, the rest of us did. The play was reviewed by MLS, and the result was a three-game suspension and a $1000 fine. (His 2008 salary is $131,250, so it won’t hurt quite enough. But at least it’s something.)
Congrats to MLS for getting it right.

Priceless opening sentence in the KC official blog: “Looks like Tyson Wahl didn’t cut open his own lip.”
And by the way, Eddie Robinson wasn’t even marking Wahl. Someone else was. And yet Robinson felt the need to do this. Hack.Posted from

While a 3 game suspension and a $1000 fine is a start, that’s really nothing for what he did.
It was completely un-called for and not even on the ball. It was just an attack on another player.
I’d like so see an enormous fine and a longer suspension…
3 games and 1 grand is like a slap on the wrist for pulling crap like this…Posted from

Just because it is “never seen” and may “happen all the time,” doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be punished–and possibly punished more severely. This is something that is a poor advertisement for the MLS, particularly when they are trying to develop the league.
