Oscar De la Hoya Buys Him Some Dynamo

de-la-hoya.jpgYou know why I’m thrilled about this news? Because last time I wrote about the possibility of Oscar de la Hoya buying a share of the Houston Dynamo, I missed the opportunity to post a photo of the man himself in lingerie.

I won’t make that same mistake twice.

The news from the Houston Business Journal is that Oscar de la Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions Inc. will be buying 25% of the Dynamo from the owners of the Houston Dynamo and the LA Galaxy, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG.) Another 25% will probably be purchased by the private equity firm Brener International Group LLC.

AEG has been under some light pressure from Major League Soccer to sell the Dynamo because the company, a subsidiary of Los Angeles-based The Anschutz Co., owns a competing team, the Los Angeles Galaxy. But the success of the Dynamo and its money-making potential in a Hispanic-influenced market would be too much to give up right away, the sources said.

Or there’s an alternative version of the story. You can believe ESPN instead, where Golden Boy is negotiating to buy 50% themselves.

And AEG retains operating responsibility.

Of course they do.

(Check out our newly reopened Houston Offside for more on this story, with a link to an interview with de la Hoya and yet another Oscar-in-lingerie photo. Do you think Oscar regrets that evening?)
