Q & As with DC United Blogger Jon

By: Laurie | March 12th, 2008

dcunited.jpgToday we’re continuing our Q & As with The Offside’s MLS bloggers with a chat with Jon from DC United Offside.

Truly, how can you not want to read the blog of somebody who lists “Goulash soup” as his favorite comfort food?

Favorite team besides the one you blog on? Chelsea FC

The player you’d most like to kick a ball around with ? I would really like to kick it with Zidane. His performance in 06 is actually what got me interested in soccer. (Yes, I’m rather new to the sport)

Favorite ice cream? Hmm. If we’re talking from a location, its a tie between a place called Carl’s in Fredericksburg, VA, gelato from Venice, and the Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard from Dairy Queen. If we’re talking flavor, Cookies and Cream.

Favorite on-the-field formation (4-4-2, 4-3-3, etc.)? I don’t have a favorite, but for the sake of uniformity, we’ll say 4-4-2.

Cats or dogs? Dogs, every day of the week. And twice on Sundays.

Favorite non-Offside soccer blog (because obviously we’re your favorite) Soccer Insider, by the Goffster.

Last DVD you watched I watched Chocolat on TV (which was great), and I think the last movie I got from Netflix was “The Squid and the Whale”.

Who’s going to win the MLS Cup this year? DC United, obviously.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? A sports writer. Also, a baseball player.

If you had to keep your eyes locked on one position (e.g. striker, goalkeeper, etc.) for an entire game, which would it be? Striker. I played QB in high school football, and I pitched for my baseball team. Basically, I like the guy who make the most noticeable contribution.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.- No thanks.

The most games you’ve ever watched in a twenty-four hour period? I think about 4? Maybe 5. World Cup was to blame for that.

Morning person or night person? I guess I’m more of a morning person. Unless I’m drinking.

Favorite national team outside of your own? France or the Czech Republic. Or Germany. So I like a lot of them.

Favorite TV show to watch in reruns? West Wing

Favorite current player on any team? Drogba, CR7 or Ribery. One of those.

Favorite comfort food? Goulash soup.

“Gruesome Soccer Injuries” video. Would you watch or not? I always do.

Favorite sport or physical activity to participate in? Baseball or Soccer. I’m a lot better at baseball.

Best game you’ve ever seen? That’s really hard to say. I can narrow it down to 15 minutes. The last 15 of the DCU v CHI home leg of the playoffs last year. We needed about 2 more minutes and that game was ours.

Best pet you’ve ever had? My golden retriever, Sandi.

Favorite goalkeeper ever? Petr Cech or Tim Howard.

What else would you like to say about yourself? That I love this website, and am glad I get to write about my favorite MLS team, and that so many people get to read it, and tell me what they think.

A Chelski supporter says CR7 is his favorite player, how unfortunate.

Listen, I can appreciate talent when I see it. If you can’t, then you aren’t really a soccer fan. You’re a fan of a team.
