Steve Morrow Gets Canned by FC Dallas
By: Laurie | May 20th, 2008In this end, this was the game that did in FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow. FC Dallas 1-5 LA Galaxy.
I don’t think it was so much the five goals that cost him his job. I think it was the one. Because LA’s offense is pretty good this year. But if you can’t score more than one goal against their defense? Something’s seriously wrong and it’s time for you to go.
Throw in not one but two disastrous DP signings, add some rumors of discontent in the locker room, and… Morrow out, Marco Ferruzzi in, at least for the moment.
I’ll best remember Morrow for how sleazy his team was when they came here to Seattle to play our USL Seattle Sounders in a US Open Cup game last year. Dallas did more diving than Greg Louganis, and when they finally managed to take a one-point lead in extra time, they did everything possible to keep the game from going forward on the pitch.
When the ball went out next to the Dallas bench, one of the coaches (I couldn’t see if it was Morrow himself) kicked it away from the Seattle player who was coming to retrieve it. Just to run down the clock a few extra seconds. (He got booked. But still.) And I know that one incident doesn’t define a person, but…
Buh-bye, Steve! Good riddance.
To celebrate, let’s take a look at a great “Steve Morrow” video.
