Remember that the DP that New York got out of Chivas is for 5 years. That means that a team that bases its marketing on trying to attract fans of the Mexican league will be unable to grab a marquee name from said league unless the rule either changes or they trade away say Bornstein, Klejstan or Guzan to get some other teams DP (or more than one of them). And being in the Gals shadow with an attendance near the bottom of the league despite winning they could have used the publicity of some Mex national teamer. They were expected to make a decent splash with the DP and got a thud. Guevara trade hands down. Remember that the DP that New York got out of Chivas is for 5 years. On one hand, trading youth for a veteran is always a little shaky, but I'm a big Kleiny fan and I think he's had his part in the Galaxy comeback. For that reason, I don't think it can be considered a total failure. My vote is for the Herron deal. The Klein trade is a funny one, I agree. I have come to adore Chris Klein, and he really does fill a huge hole in the Galaxy starting lineup. And he plays well, and gets the job done like a professional, and comes across as a genuinely nice guy as well. So it's hard for me to criticize the trade, because you can't really do this without at least implicit criticism of Klein himself. But I do guess I wish we could somehow have gotten him on the team without sacrificing the future in the form of Sturgis and Findley. I have such mixed feelings about the Klein-Sturgis-Findley trade. Klein is a solid pro, don't get me wrong. However, why trade away one of the best young defenders in the country and a speedy forward who come out of nowhere to be in consideration for the Olympic team next year. Lalas is not a genius.
