Those Ronaldo to MLS Rumors just won’t die
By: Bob | July 26th, 2007
I’m trying to remember the first time there was mention of Ronaldo coming to play in MLS, but alas my memory is having a difficult time going back all those years. Let’s just say it was about 40 pounds ago for Ronnie and about 4,000 six-packs ago for me. Now that David Beckham has changed our lives forever, the path has been paved for the Brazilian striker to make his way to the land of opportunity.
The Spanish daily AS is reporting that MLS officials have met with AC Milan to discuss the possibility of Ronaldo playing in the US. Instead of scoffing at the notion, Milan apparently are willing to take a wait and see approach to the whole matter as they try to figure out who they are going to spend the gobs of money they made in the Champions League on.
Babelfish says it best:
MLS (Major League Soccer) is determined to elevate the competitive level of their competition and, after approving the call Beckham Decree that culminated with the landing of the English in the Galaxy Angels, a tax exemption of average hair, has paid attention to Ronaldo to cause another mediatic earthquake, in this occasion in New York.
Who knew you could get a tax exemption for average hair? The government owes me millions.
As for Ronaldo in MLS, there is a reason why the rumors have been around forever. It makes sense. Outside of Beckham there probably isn’t a player around that more non-soccer fans in the US know than Ronaldo. He’d get some pub, he’d draw some fans and he probably wouldn’t mind drawing a paycheck while his skills continue to slide. The league would like to build on the Beckham momentum and even though he played well for Milan after his transfer last season the Serie A giants could live without him.
